30 years old collectors knife: 500 years Christopher Columbus – Integral Knife Tapered Tang / Blue Turquoise + Red Bone + Silver (NOS*)

On our trip through northern Italy, we found a beautiful and already 30 years old gem for you in a great knife store in Maniago. It is a collector’s knife that was built in 1992 for the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus (from Genoa). The knife was made from one piece of steel (probably 440C) as an integral knife. But this knife has another special feature, in the handle the steel tapers to the end, so a so-called “Tapered Tang”. Integral construction and also tapered tang are already something special in combination, but that’s not all. The handle was first underlaid with blue turquoise and then built up with handle scales of stabilize and red dyed bone, the handle is then also interrupted with three fine strips of sterling silver. The entire knife is highly polished and has on the blade a detailed motif etching of Christopher Columbus and his three ships, the flagship, the caravel Santa Maria, and the two caravels Niña and Pinta, as well as the dates 1492 – 1992. The knife is 210 mm long, has a 95 mm long blade and weighs 134 g. The knife comes in a black leather sheath and a red velvet pouch. In addition, of course, there is a TFG 2022 patch and a TFG EDC Coin 2022. Then all the years fit together again 1492, 1992 and 2022. What began in 1492 in America, now finds its conclusion in 2022 as an extension in perhaps a nice historical knife collection. Due to age, there are already some fine marks on the steel polished to a high gloss.

Lors de notre voyage dans le nord de l’Italie, nous avons trouvé pour vous un magnifique bijou vieux de 30 ans dans un super magasin de couteaux à Maniago. Il s’agit d’un couteau de collection qui a été fabriqué en 1992 à l’occasion du 500e anniversaire de la découverte de l’Amérique par Christophe Colomb (de Gênes). Le couteau a été fabriqué à partir d’une seule pièce d’acier (probablement du 440C) en tant que couteau intégral. Mais ce couteau présente une autre particularité : dans le manche, l’acier se rétrécit vers l’extrémité, c’est ce qu’on appelle un “Tapered Tang”. La combinaison d’une construction intégrale et d’un “Tapered Tang” est déjà particulière, mais ce n’est pas tout. Le manche a d’abord été recouvert de turquoise bleue, puis de coquilles en os stabilisé et teinté en rouge, le tout interrompu par trois fines bandes d’argent sterling. L’ensemble du couteau est poli miroir et la lame est gravée d’un motif détaillé représentant Christophe Colomb et ses trois navires, le navire amiral, la caravelle Santa Maria, ainsi que les deux caravelles Niña et Pinta, et les années 1492 – 1992. Le couteau mesure 210 mm de long, sa lame est longue de 95 mm et il pèse 134 grammes. Le couteau est livré dans un étui en cuir noir et une pochette en velours rouge. Il est bien entendu accompagné d’un patch TFG 2022 et d’un TFG EDC Coin 2022. Toutes les années se rejoignent alors : 1492, 1992 et 2022. Ce qui a commencé en Amérique en 1492 se terminera en 2022, peut-être dans une belle collection de couteaux historiques. En raison de l’âge, quelques fines traces sont déjà visibles sur l’acier poli jusqu’au brillant.
