Juan Luis Vergara comes from a family of knifemakers, and since his childhood he has had contact with the profession, as both his grandfather and his father had a cutlery factory.
At the age of 16, he started his own craft and has since worked for various companies. In 2006, together with his father, Juan Vergara Ruiz, he received the “Carné de Artesano Cuchillero” award. Both have received many other awards in their home countries.
In his modest workshop he creates authentic Navaja knives, completely handcrafted. His greatest role model is his father, Juan Vergara. But also Jose Exposito Picazo is an important influence as a master of the knife craft.
In the heart of his hometown Albacete, in the Plaza del Altozano, Juan Luis Vergara runs his own shop, the Cuchillería Altozano. Here his customers can find all kinds of knives and other cutting tools, as well as current pieces from his own workshop.
