Description
The Balmis, is intended to be a daily companion, the design actually corresponds to the typical Navajas style. It was designed as a framelock and impresses with its extreme cutting ability. The elongated blade has a flat grind that ends in a very finely ground bevel. The robust sheepfoot tip makes it brilliantly suitable for cutting boxes or steaks. (Attention extremely pointed & sharp)
Through the elongated bolster, this knife gets a special look, which also integrates the function of the frame lock. With the Böhler M390 then also the blade has a very good edge retention, which guarantees a long enduring work with the very ergonomic handles. We would prefer to call the Balmis a scalpel, as it has proven itself in practice as a perfect EDC, which is also capable of more than just cutting….
This knife is an elegant combination consisting of an M390 blade and titanium hardware.
This knife was dedicated to Francisco Javier Balmis.
Francisco Javier de Balmis (Alicante, 2 December 1753 – Madrid, 12 February 1819) was a Spanish physician best known for leading an 1803 expedition to Spanish America and the Philippines to vaccinate populations against smallpox. His expedition is considered the first international vaccination campaign in history and one of the most important events in the history of medicine. It inspired recent vaccination efforts such as that of Dr. Carlos Canseco, president of Rotary International, to start the worldwide program Polio Plus to eradicate polio.
About Miguel Angel Gil (Miguel Barbudo)
Miguel Barbudo learned forging from his Father. At the same time, he was privileged to enter the School of Traditional Forging and Restoration of the San Lorenzo de El Escorial Monastery, where he learned from some of the best professionals who worked with original pieces from the 17th century.
Since 2015 he is a fulltime knifemaker. In early October 2016, there was a fire in his smithy, which completely destroyed both the Terrain and all the machines inside. He fought his way up again and rebuilt his Workshop completely. In this new Workshop he creates custom fixed and folders of outstanding quality.
His craft mixes the passion for the rich Spanish knife tradition with new, modern materials. He builds in an international style, from the simple and elegant desing to tactical shapes and the Spanish knives of the SXVIII and XIX, the modern masters of the whole world.
Miguel sees himself as an “old school” maker (a man, a word), so he offers Lifetime warranty on his products. His knives should be constant companions and always reliable to their owners, true to his motto, “Viva mi dueño” – ” Long live my owner”!
