Description
Coltelleria Fontani “Mozzetta” – Slipjoint – Oxhorn handle – Made in Italy
Attention natural handle material may vary slightly in colour and pattern.
A simple, spring-loaded folding knife with a plate handle, the Scarperia knife par excellence, which has always been part of the Scarperia production. The “beak” at the bottom of the handle served as a grip for opening the knife with one hand.
This product is a faithful replica of the antique “Mozzetta” pocket knife, which is linked to the history of the Italian Republic, as the Giolitti government banned the carrying of pointed knives with a blade length of more than 4 cm in 1908. To solve this problem, the blunt tip model was introduced, with a blade length limited to 10 cm, and for this reason there was a wide distribution of these knives in the following years.

The Fontani cutlery is the last artisan workshop founded in Scarperia, the Fontani family, already resident in Scarperia at the end of ‘700, counts among their ancestors many master knife makers. Unfortunately, as happened for many Scarperiesi families, the craft of “coltellinajo” or “scissors”, handed down from father to son, was abandoned over time, until today Alessandro is the last knife maker of the Fontani family and also the youngest master knifemaker of Scarperia, the last to be formed within the walls of the old vicariate.
