About Miguel Barbudo

I was born in Madrid in 1980, and grew up in Valdemaqueda, the small mountain village where my family comes from, and where I enjoy my two passions: cutlery and horses.

I soon started working in my father’s forge, from whom I learned the trade making furniture and wrought iron crafts.

Later I had the privilege of entering and training at the School of Traditional Forging and Restoration of the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, where I learned from some of the best professionals who worked in the facilities with original pieces of the seventeenth century.

After my training I returned to the family forge, alternating forging and welding work with the manufacture of some knives for local hunters.

Gradually the cutlery was occupying more and more my time, until in 2015 I decide to create my brand and inaugurate the online store navajasbarbudo.es.

In early October 2016 I suffered a fire in the forge that completely destroyed both the premises and all the machinery inside.

I consider myself a fighter who does not give up easily, so I turn the tragedy into an opportunity, and take the opportunity to re-emerge as a full-time knifemaker, making up for the lack of means with hard work and tenacity.

My cutlery mixes the passion for the rich Spanish cutlery tradition, and for the new materials and international styles, from the most gentlemanly and elegant style, to the hardest tactical and having as reference the anonymous Spanish cutlers of the 18th and 19th century, to the modern masters from all over the world.
